Governor Development Programme
About our Programme
Our training package enables governing bodies to create a training programme that is specific to their needs. Training is open to all members of the governing body and course evaluations demonstrate that attendees benefit both from the skills and knowledge gained to enhance their role and from the opportunity to share good practice.
With an increasing number of schools converting to academies, you can be assured that the majority of our courses are relevant to the needs of all governors, regardless of school type.
Please don’t feel confined to the courses in the programme; if you would like something that is not listed, we will endeavour to provide it. We can tailor courses to meet the need of individual governing bodies and have access to high quality trainers who can support governing bodies in the following areas: Governor Mark; Self Evaluation; Health Check; and Governing Body Review.
Our Pledge to Governing Bodies
At the heart of all of our governor training is our commitment to ensuring better governance, leading to outstanding schools and improving outcomes for all youngsters. The training and support we offer will help governors:-
- raise standards of pupil achievement
- ensure that the school is a safe place for children to be
- understand data to inform target setting, monitoring and evaluation
- challenge and support school leaders
- ensure governance is at least good
- deliver regular, relevant and interactive training
- offer value for money
- deliver a broad range of courses to cater for the needs of new and experienced governors
- use high quality trainers
- ensure up to date resources and information
- use accessible venues
- start and finish on time
- use feedback to improve courses
We continue to use a range of venues located across the city.
How to Book IPC facilitated courses can be booked by contacting a member of the team by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Confirmation of booking will be sent by email; reminders will be sent at least one week prior to the date of the course.
Governors with Disabilities and Special Needs If you are a governor with a disability or a special need that you think might stop you accessing governor training, please do get in touch. We will endeavour to help and resolve the situation.
Cancellation of Training Courses Many courses have been popular and oversubscribed and have subsequently been repeated.
Very occasionally a decision has to be made to cancel a particular course when numbers are low. When this happens, trainers often offer materials for those governors who were registered for the course. Most trainers consider courses viable with 6 or more governors and some are happy to deliver to 4, so training courses will only be cancelled or postponed when numbers are extremely low and it is simply not viable to go ahead. Where appropriate, the course will be rearranged.
We strongly advise that you inform us of you intention to attend to allow us to notify you should arrangements change
